Darcy joined CERT Systems in 2013 after a 26-year stint with the New Zealand Police. He’s a veteran officer who rose to the rank of Senior Sergeant and is one of the most experienced staff safety instructors in New Zealand. His police career included more than 12 years at the Royal New Zealand Police College as a defensive tactics and physical training instructor. He’s also a qualified police firearms instructor.
Darcy held frontline operational roles at Opunake, Hawera and Wanganui. He was also the Officer in Charge (OIC) of Search and Rescue (SAR) for the Wanganui area, which provided him the opportunity to further develop his operational planning, co-ordination and command skills.
Darcy brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to the design and delivery of our training programmes, particularly in the areas of compliance, enforcement and staff safety.
“I really enjoy working with people and I got plenty of opportunities to do just that as a police officer. Most of all, I enjoy teaching people how to recognise and defuse difficult situations, and how to safely withdraw or keep themselves safe if the need arises. The confidence and workplace competence people gain from this can be life-changing.”

"Awesome course. Very relevant, interesting and informative. I will definitely use this very valuable information. It made me feel more comfortable in my job."
"I congratulate you on the course you have just run for HBRC. I have never heard so many positive comments about a course, and particularly a conflict management course. It was the first course where everyone who attended has recommended the course. HBRC will continue to use your services."
"This course has the power to be life-changing. The techniques taught have already been of significant assistance to me at home with my children. I’m a much happier person now at work and at home, and I feel well-equipped to be able to effectively communicate and manage conflict both personally and professionally."
"The feedback from our staff indicates they have benefitted greatly from the course. There has been an overwhelming appreciation for the manner in which you conducted the course and presented all content. The staff also expressed their appreciation that all material presented was relevant to their day to day duties."
"I just wanted to say thanks for the great course you delivered to us. All our rangers who attended thoroughly enjoyed the three days and say it was the best course they have ever attended."
"I notice after the training that the team are much more confident in dealing with conflict situations and I have seen a great improvement in interaction between them in multiple officer situations."
