LibrariesSituational Safety and Tactical Communications training for Library staff
Libraries are unique environments - they should be places for quiet reflection and learning. Sadly, because they are warm and dry and have internet access, they can also attract an unsavoury element. Those that work there may have to deal with difficult people on a daily basis and at worst, be at risk of abuse, aggressive behaviour or even assault. Recognising this, we have developed a one-day Situational Safety and Tactical Communications (SSTC) workshop, specifically to help library staff cope with the challenges of dealing with the public in their work setting. The course combines elements of our foundation SSTC programme and our Front Counter Safety Training course, adapted to a library environment. The principles, models and techqnies we teach are proven to assist staff in all their interactions but in particular when they are dealing with difficult, insulting or aggressive members of the public.
