Automatic Double Lock (ADL) Technology
Handcuff neuropathy, nerve damage caused by overly tight handcuffs, has been around as long as handcuffs. It has resulted in injuries and harm to detainees along with reputational damage to the organisations whose staff carried out the restraint.
In some cases it has even resulted in financial damages being awarded against those organisations (or the matter being settled by way of a negotiated payment prior to the matter being heard in Court).
The root cause of this type of injury is that there has not been a handcuff designed to prevent overly tight application. Current handcuffs rely on decades old technology that requires manually locking the cuffs from further tightening after application. This process does not prevent initial tight application and leaves the process open to human error
SpiderCuff has solved this problem with our patented Automated Double Lock (ADL) technology.
SpiderCuff’s ADL is a mechanical locking device that is activated by the pressure of the cuff being applied to the wrist. With just minimal pressure, the device is activated, physically locking against special reverse facing teeth to prevent further tightening of the handcuffs.
SpiderCuff’s single blade is up to 63% wider than other handcuffs. Not only does this provide the room required for the ADL components, but the wider bail also spreads the pressure of the blade across a greater area, thereby providing greater comfort for the detainee while reducing the chance of injury.

The ADL technology is incorporated into every SpiderCuff handcuff. SpiderCuff handcuffs are the only handcuffs that automate safety.
SpiderCuff offers three models of handcuffs,name model 01, model 10 and the model 40 - all of which feature SpiderCuffs ADL technology.
Model 01
Spidercuffs model 01 handcuff is quite possibly the most advanced handcuff on the market today. Not only does it offer ADL technology to reduce - in fact, virtually eliminate - the opportunity for nerve neuropathy to occur.
In addition to this, the model 01 also features a 'control grip' on one of the rings to enable operators to apply enhanced control via a bottle top type technique while the second ring features a standard grip on a swivel to enable the ring to be manipulated in any direction to assist with the application of the second ring to the subjects wrist.
Lastly, the model 01 features a unique extension feature that enables the rings to be spread up top 30cms apart to assist in the restraint of large, inflexible subjects. The extension features a one way rachet which retracts, reducing the extension to the point minimum length the subjects body allows.
